the story of living well

Beginning in early 2014 as living well, a Christian counseling project of the Member Care Association, the Counselling Centre for Living Well Co., Ltd now provides resources, training, and support for expatriate workers living and working throughout Cambodia to promote well-being. Our center is comprised of English and Korean speaking clinical and pastoral counselors. Living Well has grown to provide services to people and organizations in Phnom Penh and beyond, with a growing list of member partners and opportunities to reach beyond its borders.

Key internal relationships:   Governing Board Chair, counseling staff, volunteers

Key external relationships:   Member agencies and key mission organizations, NGO, member care and counseling providers in Cambodia. Cambodian government departments as relevant. Social enterprise community in Phnom Penh.

Position Purpose

To lead Living Well as a provider of quality counseling and member care services within Cambodia. The primary responsibility is to manage the staff team, develop and maintain strong professional and business operations, ensure quality services and be a face of Living Well within relevant networks in Cambodia and beyond.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Strategic Leadership & Direction

  • Model servant leadership and nurture a team culture of respectful

    communication and collective ownership of the vision of Living Well.

  • Ensure clear and transparent decision making processes within LW team.

  • Ensure internal processes facilitate communication and accountability within the team, including accountability of the director/s to their staff teams.

  • Establish the foundation for a sustainable business and oversee the ongoing business strategy and development.

  • Respond in a timely manner to grievance issues and feedback both internally and externally. Alert the board to any urgent governance or grievance issues.

  • Ensure effective financial control and compliance with organizational policies and procedures, and government financial regulations.

  • Facilitate Living Well to be a resource for counseling and member care within Cambodia.

Overseeing quality & professional service development

  • Facilitate the design and development of the centers member care activities, ensuring a balanced program of activities throughout the year (including continuing and new project initiatives in line with strategic and business plan).

  • Facilitate professional development for staff team and foster a community of learning.

  • Oversee internal policy and procedure implementation. Keep the board updated on areas need attention and the plan for addressing this.

Financial, administration & Business Management

  • Ensure finances are effectively managed with utmost transparency and regular reporting to board and government departments.

    • Provide monthly updates to the governing board representative including financial and activity summary.

    • Submit quarterly written summaries both financial and activity to the Board and compile an annual report each year.

  • Ensure internal LW policies and procedures are in compliance with the Cambodian business and taxation laws.

  • Ensure internal systems are developed and followed for meeting minutes, timely agenda circulation and planning/scheduling of meetings of board and staff.

  • Develop, monitor and report annual budget plan, ensuring costs (staff, operations, and activities) are adequately budgeted.

  • Maintain data activity and financial records to provide data for projections to enable decision making.

  • Alert the board to any issues of concern (immediate or long-term) which affect the operations of LW as you become aware of these.

  • Oversee the maintenance of the physical and aesthetics of LW space.

Representation & Advocacy

  • Represent LW in high-level meetings with government and donor bodies

    as directed by the Board.

  • Actively promote LW within Cambodia and the wider region.

  • Ensure LW’s external communications are in line with core values, scope, philosophy and theology underpinning LW’s work.

  • Identify and develop key relationships, ensuring regular engagement and coordination with strategic partners with the Cambodian counseling and member care fields.

  • Be the key contact for existing and potential member agencies to understand their context and possible services LW could offer

People Management

  • Direct management and pastoral care of the staff team (Khmer and


  • Actively develop a team culture of collaboration and innovation.

  • Establish strong HR processes including job descriptions, contracts,

    transparent staff benefit packages, hiring procedure and appraisal system.

  • Lead the recruitment of clinical/pastoral/member care workers in order

    to meet needs within the expat community.

Safety, Security & Risk Management

  • Oversee the safety and security plans for LW, and ensure that staff comply

    with policies and procedures.

  • Ensure optimum safety of LW staff, consultants, volunteers and clients.  

Person Specification

Essential qualifications, experience, skills, & personal attributes

  • Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills including excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • 5-10 years experience managing staff teams, with proven experience managing complex tasks and diverse teams.

  • Experience in overseeing financial procedures, budget management and government reporting.

  • Tertiary qualifications in relevant field (psychology, counseling, management, finance).

  • Experience living and working cross-culturally for at least two years.

Desirable qualifications, experience, skills, & personal attributes

  • Ability to provide some of the following: Clinical supervision and mentoring, development of broader counseling services.

  • Experience living and working in Cambodia

  • Experience in program development, business development and strategic planning at a counseling center, NGO or community organization.

  • Clinical counseling qualification.

  • Experience working within a small startup environment similar to LW.

  • Language skills in Khmer, Korean or language other than English.

  • You would be committed to the growth of LW for the purpose of serving the expat community in Cambodia.
