Living Well is a Christian organisation that provides professional and accessible clinical counselling and wellbeing services to people from all backgrounds, enabling them to thrive personally and relationally.

About the position

As the Director of Living Well you will provide strategic and operational leadership to our service as a unique and trusted provider of quality counseling and member care.

Your primary responsibilities will be to develop and maintain strong professional and business operations and to lead and support our dedicated team as they seek to serve the expat community in Cambodia.

With the support of our Governing Board you will implement business plans, resolve operational issues and improve our systems and practices to ensure that we are faithfully fulfilling our core vision and proactively managing our growth.

Your role will be both advisory and hands-on as you draw from your knowledge and experience in management to strengthen our current operations and ensure our responsiveness to ongoing change. You will be approachable, flexible and enthusiastic about leading a cross cultural team.

You will be a high capacity person who is organized, and detail orientated; a great communicator, natural coach, wise decision maker and able to juggle a broad spectrum of responsibilities while living out the principles of self-care, reflection and active Christian faith as promoted by Living Well.

Duties and responsibilities

1: Strategic Leadership and Direction  

  • Lead and implement the strategic and operational plans for Living Well that will deepen our impact, address current challenges and grow our services in an effective yet sustainable way.

  • Model servant leadership and nurture an organizational culture of respectful communication and collective ownership of the vision of Living Well.

  • Ensure internal processes facilitate communication and accountability within the team.


2: Overseeing quality and professional service development

  • In conjunction with the counselling team, design and develop mental health training and workshops to benefit the community and our member partners

  • Facilitate professional development for staff team and foster a community of learning 


3: Financial, Administration and Business Management

  • In conjunction with the Assistant Director, strengthen foundational systems for a sustainable business model and implement the agreed business strategy and development.

  • Ensure finances are effectively managed with utmost transparency and comply with organizational policies, procedures, and Government financial requirements.

  • Develop, monitor and report annual budget plan, ensuring costs (staff, operations, and activities) are adequately budgeted.

  • Provide regular written updates/summaries to the Governing Board regarding finances and activity and compile an annual report.

  • Ensure internal Living Well policies and procedures are in compliance with the Cambodian business and taxation laws and maintain data activity and financial records to assist decision making.

  • Alert the Board to any urgent governance or grievance issues, or areas of concern which may affect the operations of Living Well and respond in a timely and wise manner. 


4: Representation and Advocacy

  • In conjunction with the Assistant Director, Represent Living Well in high-level meetings with Government and donor bodies as directed by the Board.

  • Actively promote Living Well within Cambodia and the wider region through a range of social media, publications, networks and communications to increase exposure.

  • Be the key contact for existing and potential member agencies to understand their context and possible services Living Well could offer

  • Identify and develop key relationships, ensuring regular engagement and coordination with strategic partners within the Cambodian counseling and member care fields. 


5: People Management

  • Directly manage, support and mentor all staff (Khmer and expat)

  • Maintain strong HR processes including position descriptions, employment contracts, transparent staff benefit packages, onboarding procedure and appraisal system.

  • Lead the recruitment of suitable clinical/pastoral/member care workers in order to meet needs within the expat community. 


6: Safety, Security and Risk Management

  • Oversee the safety and security plans for Living Well, and ensure that staff comply with policies, procedures and local laws and regulations.

  • Ensure the optimum safety of Living Well staff, consultants, volunteers and clients.

Qualifications required

You will hold or be working towards:

  1. Bachelor degree (or higher) in a relevant field (counselling, psychology, business, management,  finance), and have,

  2. Personal experience living and working cross-culturally for a minimum of 2 years (preferably in Cambodia) 


Reporting relationships

Reports to: Living Well Governing Board


Supervisor of: Assistant Director, local admin and finance staff, Living Well’s counselling team and volunteers 


Additional Information

  • You will need to be flexible regarding work hours, as this role may at times include work on evenings, weekends and public holidays.

  • Your employment with Living Well is subject to a satisfactory, current police/background check.

  • You will need to agree to and uphold Living Well’s Employment Policy, Safeguarding Policy and financial and administrative procedures.

  • Upon appointment, a probationary period of 3 months will apply. 


Living Allowance, Benefits and Allowances

A living allowance/local salary and benefits are negotiable based on the individual candidate’s need and the financial capacity of Living Well.

CLINICAL COUNSELLOR POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Position Purpose

To provide quality clinical counselling services to expatriates living and working in Cambodia 

Location: Phnom Penh

Tenure: Preferably not less than a two year commitment

Hours: Full time or Part Time

Reports to: Living Well Director

Direct reports: None

Key internal relationships: Director, Administrative Assistant, Financial Officer, Living Well volunteers and counselling staff

Key external relationships: Other counselling services within Cambodia, Living Well members and wider ex-pat community. 

Key Areas of Responsibility

Professional Clinical Counselling

  • Provide clinical counselling for individual, couple, family and/or group counselling sessions.

  • Build a relationship of trust and respect with clients.

  • Assess each client, identify mental well-being concerns and emotional distress.

  • Ensure a professional ethical framework is adhered to (such as BACP).

  • Identify clients needs and offer an appropriate therapeutic approach.

  • Explore with the client the effectiveness of the approach.

  • Work alongside the client to achieve their goals.

  • Maintain confidential records monitoring the client’s process.

  • Meet regularly with other colleagues for peer support and review.

  • Meet regularly (at least monthly for one and a half hours) with an external supervisor.

  • Assist with preparation and involvement with Living Well groups and training seminars as required and appropriate.

Financial Administration

  • Communicate clearly with clients regarding appointments.

  • Maintain accurate client records, document therapeutic approaches provided and progress.

  • Ensure appropriate security of client notes. Inform clients of the data protection policy.

  • Follow and liaise with the financial officer regarding payments for service provision.

  • Follow Living Well client management systems.

  • Participate in Living Well team meetings.

Safety and Risk Management

  • Maintain professional standards of practice, within the parameters noted in the Living Well Safeguarding Policy and professional practice.

Essential Experience, Qualifications & Skills

  • Hold a recognised professional clinical counselling qualification.

  • Have two or more years post qualifying clinical practice.

  • Have evidence of experience providing effective therapeutic approaches with individuals, couples, families and/or group settings.

  • Have exemplary interpersonal and communication skills in the language(s) you would see clients in, and adequate written and verbal communication skills in English

Desirable Qualifications

  • Have the ability to provide clinical supervision

  • Be able to speak Khmer, Korean, Chinese or another language common among locals or expats in Cambodia

  • Have experience living and working in Cambodia.

  • Ability to empathize and be non-judgmental.

  • Keen interest in learning and skills improvement, combined with humility to recognize that many answers are unknown
